Elana Bertram founded HLR in 2011 to help entrepreneurs and small business owners navigate the startup process. With a keen understanding of marketing and business strategies and a deep knowledge of intellectual property, she brings a new perspective to your company.
Though she is not taking new clients, Attorney Bertram speaks to groups of professionals and service-providers about intellectual property principles in order to help them maximize the value they offer their clients. She is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, and admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York superior courts and the District of Connecticut federal court.
She earned her juris doctor magna cum laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Quinnipiac Health Law Journal. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in biological sciences, and worked for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals prior to becoming an attorney. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Yale School of Management.
Attorney Bertram was appointed to the faculty at the Hawaii Pacific University College of Business in 2019, after working as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the University of Maryland University College Asia Division Graduate School. She is also a co-founder of Oki Nexus, Inc., a charitable organization bringing English-language learning and job skills training to low-income communities in Okinawa, Japan. Her past community service includes Vice-Chairman of the Town of Newtown Economic Development Commission from 2011-16 and sat on the State of Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Conservation Advisory Council. She also served as a Corporator for Newtown Savings Bank for over two years.
